Welcome to the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research Unit (CMRU)

Welcome to our Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research Unit (CMRU).  This website is a great place to find valuable information on our group research initiatives, news, seminar, as well as research interests of individual CMRU members and laboratories.   Newly opened positions for trainees are also frequently posted.

This Unit was established in 2006 with the mission of fostering excellence in cardiovascular and metabolic research by facilitating activity and collaboration among scientist at Lakehead University, Northern Ontario School of Medicine, and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center. Specifically our researches focus on the pathophysiological mechanisms, biomarker exploration, and novel therapeutic approaches for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer.  We are also interested in the studies on asthma and aging development.  CMRU  is located in the ICR Discovery Building in Thunder Bay, Ontario.  This unit holds cell culture facility, dark room, numerous state-of-the-art equipments for molecular biology and biochemistry.  A modern animal care facility is also located in this building.  Multiple techniques are used in our studies, including western blotting, real-time PCR, gene cloning, patch-clamp, gene manipulation (up-regulation and down-regulation), protein purification, immunocytochemistry, etc.

CMRU is looking forward to promoting collaborative interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research on the regulation of cardiovascular and other diseases, to building capacity in medical research through training and recruitment; and to promoting and advancing human wellness.
